Nicaragua Tour 11 days
Eleven days and a completely different Nicaragua: the San Juan river, the north-eastern mountains up to Siuna, Matagalpa and León, then back via Granada, the coast, Ometepe and Rincón de la Vieja. 1,793 km.
The grand tour of Nicaragua
This is not the long version of the eight-day tour, it is a different journey altogether. You come in from the south-east at San Carlos, crossing the legendary río San Juan before heading due north through Boaco up to Siuna. Deep in the north-eastern mountains, the part of the country nobody visits, you drop down to Matagalpa and its coffee, then on to León and its volcanoes. The way back runs through Granada, the Pacific coast at Popoyo, the island of Ometepe, San Juan del Sur and a last night at the foot of Rincón de la Vieja to make the border crossing easier. Eleven nights, eleven legs, 1,793 km.
The route at a glance
The real route takes shape in front of you, leg after leg. Click a number to see it in photos.
Real route: 1,793 km and about 38 h of riding spread over 11 days. The detailed roadbook (viewpoints, stops and good addresses) is handed to you at the start. The track comes from the map Seb sent on 29 August and revised on 9 September: nothing like the eight-day loop, which follows the Pacific. This one goes round the country through the interior and the north-east.
Day-by-day itinerary
Legs read off the outfitter's own route: towns crossed, distances and time in the saddle. Indicative route, adaptable to the weather, your level and what you feel like (private tours). Some days are deliberately short: Popoyo (72 km), Ometepe (78 km) and San Juan del Sur (61 km). You arrive early because there is something to see there.
