How much does a motorcycle cost in Costa Rica? At Pura Vida Motorbike, rentals start at $75 per day and motorcycle tours at $590 per rider. Here are all our prices, what they include, and what you still need to budget for.
Motorcycle rental
The rate is per day and per bike, for rentals of 3 days or more. For a rental of several weeks, ask us for a quote.

What's included
- Unlimited mileage.
- Mandatory bike insurance: third-party liability and medical costs.
- 24/7 roadside support: one call, and we arrange the repair or a replacement bike.
- A phone mount fitted on the bike and a rechargeable local SIM card.
- The luggage rack and straps to tie down your things.
Full gear (helmet, gloves, jacket and rain gear) is optional, at $15 per day. Boots aren't provided: bring your own.
Options
- Full gear, in your size: $15 per day.
- A second helmet for a passenger, if you ride two-up: no extra charge.
- Delivery and pick-up away from the agency, anywhere in Costa Rica: quoted according to the distance.

Motorcycle tours
A tour price includes the hotels, the bike, its insurance, full gear, a SIM card and 24/7 roadside support. Guided tours add the guide-mechanic, all meals, activities and ferries, fuel and tolls. In Nicaragua and Panamá, a guide is mandatory.

Security deposit, booking deposit and payment
- A security deposit of $800 per bike, taken as a card pre-authorization at pickup. It covers damage to the bike, for example in a fall, and is released in full if the bike comes back in the condition it left in.
- A 40% deposit confirms the booking.
- The balance is paid on site, before each departure, in cash or by card, with a 4 % fee for card payments.
- Cancellation 60 days or more before departure: partial or full refund. If we cancel, you get a full refund.
What's left to budget for
On a rental, or on a self-guided tour: meals, fuel, tolls and ferries. And in every case, personal travel insurance that covers motorcycling: many policies exclude it by default.
